Pain in the Butt. How to Deal with Hemorrhoids?

This is very sensitive area of your body. Too private. Nobody likes when something is wrong over there. However it happens.

Hemorrhoids occur practically in everyone. Though hemorrhoids cause problems in 1 out of 25 people. Mostly those are people between 45 and 65 years of age.

You find a blood on toilet tissue. Bright red blood. Ok, now what? You do not know why you bleed. It could be rectal cancer by the way. It could be hemorrhoids.

So? What are the hemorrhoids?

They look like cushions. They contain blood vessels, some muscle and elastic fibers. People often call them piles.

Not everything over there is a hemorrhoid. There could be other problems. Fissure, abscess, fistula, pruritus (itching), condylomata (sort of hanging skin caused by viral infection), viral and bacterial skin infections can happen in that, so sensitive area.

It is worth to talk to your doctor.

How would a scenario of hemorrhoids look?

A 46-year-old female presents with complaints on rectal discomfort, occasional bright red blood on toilet tissue and prolapsing tissue in of anal area. This is probably internal hemorrhoid.

Another scenario brings a patient who complains on severe rectal pain and prolapsed tissue. The severe pain happens in external hemorrhoids. The pain follows thrombosis (thrombosis is the blood clot in your blood vessels).

There are four degrees of internal hemorrhoids.

It may be interesting for you to know because first, second and sometime third degree can be treated by banding only. Fourth degree and sometime third degree requires surgery.

Do not forget non-hemorrhoid causes of symptoms. To check with your doctor is worthwhile because there could be other problems, including cancer or anal fissure. (By the way for anal fissure medical treatment alone may heal it in 90% of cases).

How are hemorrhoids treated?

Well first you need to understand how do hemorrhoids happen. Several reasons lead to hemorrhoids:

Constipation and extra straining
Chronic Diarrhea and loose stools
Long sitting or standing
Weight lifting
Obesity
Pregnancy and childbirth
Inherited tendency to hemorrhoids.

So, avoid all this and you are free.

Obviously this list of reasons is too wide.

The list of measures is wide too.

Increase the fiber in your diet.

Eat more cereals, fruits, vegetables, grains, etc

Psyllium and methylcellulose are supplemental types of fiber.

Exercise, avoid long standing or sitting, don't strain, keep the anal area clean.

Increase liquids in your diet.

Use stool softeners, stool-bulking agents (not a tasty ones, but what can you do).

Treat diarrhea with anti-motility drugs and fiber.

Not every of these methods are proved scientifically. Nonetheless they are included in the standard recommendations for hemorrhoids treatment.

To treat itching or discomfort you may use suppositories, ointments, creams, and gels. You may find that all in your local pharmacy.

These products contain protectant and anesthetics (pain relievers). Local anesthetics numb the area and decrease burning and itching.

Remember that local anesthetics may cause allergy.

Analgesics (menthol, camphor) relieve pain and itching as well

Vasoconstrictors reduce swelling in the perianal area. Though they may have side effects. Better discuss with your doctor.

Protectants (kaolin, cocoa butter, lanolin, mineral oil, starch, zinc oxide or calamine, glycerin, etc) create a physical barrier to prevent contact of stool and the skin. This reduces irritation, itching, and burning.

Similarly, some agents - astringents - dry the skin. That helps to relieve burning, itching, and pain as well.

To kill or at least suppress bacteria and other organisms use antiseptics. Boric acid, phenol, resorcinol and many others can be used. Again better to discuss with your doctor or at least pharmacist. Many of these drugs are sold over-the-counter.

Corticosteroids. Corticosteroids decrease inflammation and relieve itching, but may cause skin damage. They should be used for few days only.

Sitz bath may also help in relieving the symptoms.

When those methods fail your doctor may perform one of the following:

Sclerotherapy (causes scarring of the hemorrhoid).

Rubber band ligation. The rubber band cut off blood supply and hemorrhoid heals with scarring.

Side effects of any of the treatment may be infection of fat and other tissues surrounding the anal canal, especially if patient has diabetes cancer, AIDS.

Another option - electrotherapy and infrared photocoagulation. Works the same way, cause scarring of the tissue. Cryotherapy uses cold to cause inflammation and scarring. Practically the same, though more time consuming.

Let say your medical treatment fails. What do you do then? Well, you go to surgeon and treat it surgically.

Operations are done in less than 10% of patients. Though it depends.

Surgical procedures include Dilation. It is when surgeon stretches your anal sphincter.

Ligation. Often a Doppler probe helps to measures blood flow and finds the individual artery.

The doctor ties off the artery.

Sphincterotomy. It is when sphincter is partially cut. Whole idea is to reduce the pressure.

Hemorrhoidectomy. Hemorrhoidectomy makes sense for patients with third- or fourth-degree hemorrhoids. The hemorrhoids are cut out.

Stapled hemorrhoidectomy. Stapler cuts off the ring of expanded hemorrhoidal tissue.

There are different considerations why to do this and not that type of treatment. And vice versa.

There are complications (pain, difficulty urinating, bleeding several days after surgery, scarring, infection, stool incontinence). Complications happen relatively rare, but they are still there. Better talk to you surgeon.

Sound Advice On Constructing A Soundproof Ceiling

If you are attempting to create a soundproof ceiling, your approach to the task will depend on whether you are working in a single story building, with no rooms above the ceiling on which you are working, or on an upstairs room. If you are working on a ceiling with a room above it, you can consider creating a soundproof ceiling with the use of resilient bars.

A Floating Soundproof Ceiling

By using resilient bars in making a soundproof ceiling, you will actually be constructing a new ceiling of plaster board under, or in place of, the existing one. The plaster board and resilient bars should be used with some other sound deadening material like acoustic membrane, acoustic mineral wool, or soundproofing mats.

You can remove the current ceiling and fill in the open space with acoustic wool, and attach the resilient bars so that they are perpendicular to the old ceilings joists. Place one layer of plaster board against the bars, fasten it with screws, and layer it with the soundproofing mats or membrane. Then attach the second layer of plasterboard.

To seal you soundproof ceiling, youll have to make sure that a 5mm gap remains between the plasterboard and the adjoining walls, and seal the gap with acoustic sealant so that it becomes airtight, and the soundproof ceiling floats.

A Dropped Soundproof Ceiling

If youve decided to simply drop your soundproof ceiling from the existing one, attach battens perpendicular to the ceilings joists, fill the gaps between the battens with the acoustic mineral wool, and then duplicate the process for the floating soundproof ceiling.

Either of these techniques for constructing a soundproof ceiling

should effectively deaden the sounds of upstairs footsteps, but if they are more work than you care to undertake, you have the option of installing acoustic ceiling tiles, or spraying the ceiling with acoustic foam. They will deaden the sounds from above to a reasonable degree, although not as much as a newly-installed soundproof ceiling.

One of the most difficult things about installing a soundproof ceiling is that you will often have to work from below on scaffolding. Its not merely uncomfortable; its definitely not the best way to make sure everything is securely attached. You can eliminate this problem if you construct your soundproof ceiling by working on the floor in the upstairs room.

By placing the soundproof material on the upper floor, you will deaden the upstairs sounds before the travel to the ceiling of the room beneath. This technique for creating a soundproof ceiling is especially effective in multi-story apartment and office buildings.

Garage Slatwall and Other Storage Solutions

The most unorganized place in a family's house is usually the garage, often because the garage is easy to blow off as just a big storage space and is rarely attended to. If a garage is organized however, it can be an extremely useful space for working, parking cars, storing bikes, and giving easy access to things that might otherwise be in boxes.

The first step in the organizing process is to figure out what you have and what you need, or need access to. Everything that is broken or has missing parts should be tossed in the garbage, and those things that will never be used should go to charity. Once these things are separated, the organization process will go much smoother. It is a great idea to move anything out of the garage that belongs somewhere else. Clothes and shoes should usually go in closets or attic space rather than a garage.

Thinking of the garage similarly to a retail store display will help in conceptualizing how things should be organized. Just like a retail store, an inventory must be taken. With an accurate inventory, it will be easy to purchase organizing fixtures and map out a good plan. Make sure to categorize the list so that it will be more manageable. Once you have a better grasp of the job at hand, you can begin to shop around for the right kinds of fixtures to store the items for easy access and efficient storage. There are some store fixtures that work as excellent tools for this kind of organization. Slatwall panels are one of them. Slatwalls provide wall storage space and can be arranged in virtually any pattern. Tools and hardware are easy to access and out of the way on a slatwall, and there are slatwall accessories for virtually every object. Of course, various slatwalls can be purchased in hardware stores, but online fixture stores will often have better prices and more options. Spend some time searching around.

Plastic storage containers, shelves, hooks, cabinets, and pegboard are other great organizing fixtures that help organize the garage. Some things don't really hang up well and should sit on a shelf, and sometimes pegboard is a less expensive alternative for wall hanging if there are fewer items. Whatever you choose, the shed should then be organized according to the items and storage fixtures. For example, one wall might be hardware tools and another for gardening supplies. This type of category organization will make finding specific items much simpler. Labels are another great way to keep things organized because they help people to put objects back in their designated places.

The goal of garage organization is to get the floor clean, the items organized and easy to access, and to utilize all of the space efficiently. When these things are accomplished, a garage becomes one of the most useful spaces in a home. It will work great for projects with the kids or working on the bikes, and it will just take a good solid effort on one Saturday to get it all organized. You will find it to be extremely worth it.

Strategic Networking: Take the Shortest Path to Success

Do you use Ryze or LinkedIn to promote your web based business? If so, you may have noticed that everything is linked to everything else. Here's how to take the shortest path to networking success: use keywords and a targeted linking strategy.

On Ryze and other major networks, connections are happening everywhere. It's like real life, but far more obvious because it's in print before your eyes. But what you may not have noticed, is that keywords are the very thing that drives your online business connections.

Online networks such as Ryze have live links built into them for a reason. They're your opportunity to directly connect with people who can help you achieve your business goals. Such links enable you to "trace a path" from connection to connection. If you think about this long enough, it may occur to you that you can shorten that path to the best connections if you incorporate a linking strategy into your networking plan. How to go about this? Use keywords and "key people" who can help you get to the place in life where you want to be.

Include Keywords In Your Personal Profile

As you build your personal Ryze page, you'll notice that you get to add descriptive words to your profile to define who you are. You're free to use any words you want, but the idea, again, is to take the most direct route to success. So choose words, or keywords if you will, that will help you "find and be found."

Let's use your location as an example. If you click right on the state where you live, you can "pivot" on the word to see a list of every Ryze member who lives in that state, too. The same goes for every other live link you get on Ryze. You are in control of these links.

Now suppose you want to link up to people who share your personal hobbies and interests. Type in the words to describe your interests as they're most commonly known.

Let's say you're a golfer. You can attract other golf enthusiasts with the simple keyword "golf." You can of course type in something like "putting around" but what other golfer is going to choose those exact words for his interest list? Maybe one other guy, and if you can find him then you're soulmates and should probably marry each other. Just kidding!

Remember, the point of online network links is not to be original, but to make connections. If you feeling like getting creative, you can always do that on your homepage. Write fabulous copy. Include breathtaking photos. Just make sure that your links are beefed up with common keywords for prime networking opportunities.

Adding Key People: Target Your Links!

In much the same way that a smart advertiser pulls in his audience using keywords and highly targeted copy in every ad he writes, you should be pointing all your Ryze links to the people, groups, and opportunities that will point your business in a highly focused and profitable direction.

Some Ryze members try to really work the Friends List angle. Every once in a while an aggressive Ryzer sends me a message like, "Hi Dina, I noticed you didn't say hello when you stopped by my page." And then they want to add me to their Friends list right away.

First of all, I know for a fact that I never Ryzed by Joe Bagadonuts's Ryze page, and he's not going to trick me into thinking I did. So tone it down, Joe, you're coming on too strong.

Second of all, I have my own theory about Ryze, and it's that adding everyone to my Friends List is going to defeat the purpose of me being there in the first place.

Think about this: What if you could add every Ryze member to your Friend's List? Pretty cool, huh? You'd be royally hooked up with awesome connections! Right?

No. You'd be right back where you started on Ryze. A massive pool of connections to pore through to do some decent business, and you don't know where to start. Kinda paradoxical, isn't it.

The answer, of course, is to be more selective in who you link to. Hook up with those who offer services, information, support and advice that you need to grow your business. How to do this? Join networks.

Joining the Right Networks Will Bring Hits to Your Page

When you first join Ryze, join networks. Not necessarily a ton of networks, but the ones that will help forward your business objective along. This is how you get "hits" to your page. Why? Because online networks are simply a miniature model of the World Wide Web! You must get out there in order for people to see you, and you must communicate who you are and what you stand for... or no one will know you exist.

Suppose you sell all-natural coffee, and you want to do some writing for the coffee industry as well as put out a newsletter to your email subscriber list of coffee drinkers, which you don't have yet because you only just started your business. Also, somewhere down the line maybe you'd like to revamp your website, but that's not in the budget right now.

Your networking strategy whould be as follows: join a network of coffee fans, another network of natural foodies, a writing group, an email and/or ezine publishing group, and a web design group. Participate in each of those groups. Jump right into the conversation.

You'll find that networks which coincide with your Big Plan, are appealing because members are often interested in achieving the same goals as you are. In talking with them over time, you'll develop mutually beneficial relationships that lead to new opportunities.

Another perk of joining the right networks: new Ryzers and Floating Ryzers who "Ryze on by" the networks will scan the list of members, see your name, and maybe reach out to make a connection with you. That's how to be "found" by the right people. "Target" your networking, and carve a path to success and prosperity for your home-based web business.

Your Friends List is Your Circle of Trust

So now you're probably wondering what the heck that Friends List is for. Your Friends can be anybody you wish, but ideally they should be people you know and trust.

My Friends list orginates from the first dot-com group that I worked for, whose members all belonged to Ryze and urged me to join. It also includes people I "pulled in" from the outside world. In my opinion, and if you don't agree with this, that's perfectly okay... your Ryze Friends List should be a cluster of "set connections" - your Circle of Trust. It should consist of the people with whom you've had positive prior experiences, are making current plans with, and have established solid, long-term relationships.

Why should this matter? Well, I don't know about you but I'd much rather deal with people who I KNOW AND TRUST than random others who merely added me to their friend list to build a huge following. Me, I want strong links in my people chain. But that's just me.

Example: suppose I'm looking to hire a tech guy. Will I contact a tech guy that's connected to a person I barely know? Of course not! I'll choose someone who comes with a recommendation from a trusted friend: someone on my Friends List. All the more reason to keep your Ryze Friends List "pure." I can't explain it any better than this.

Of course, not every network you join will be related to your business. You can join for the social aspect alone, and that's perfectly okay. Because another cool thing about online networking is that you can keep your groups separate if you want!

The best online networks, like Ryze, are ingeniously designed to make the most of your connections in every facet of your business and your life. In much the same way we make real-time connections, online networks afford opportunities to build profitable and trusting relationships. Why not use that to your advantage?

Your credit report is what most lenders look at heavily to decide whether you are approved for a loan or not. If your credit score is high then you will likely be approved and have a low interest rate. If your score is low you may be denied or else be offered an extremely high interest rate. So, since your credit report plays such a huge role in whether or not you are approved you should know what is in your report before you ever apply. Many times there is information in your credit report that is incorrect and that will negatively impact whether you are approved or not. If there is negative information in your report you should have it corrected before you ever apply for a mortgage loan. Making sure your credit report has all correct information will make sure you get the best mortgage loan and interest rate offer possible. If you are applying with your spouse then check their report as well to make sure theirs is correct as well.

Tip #2 Make Changes

Now that you know whether there are mistakes on your credit report or not you can start making changes. You will have to report errors to the credit bureau that is reporting the errors to have them corrected. It may take some time so be patient and don't apply for a mortgage loan until the errors are corrected.

Tip #3 Raise Your Credit Score

You will also want to take the opportunity to review your credit score while you are looking at your report. Doing so will show you what you need to do in order to increase your score. If you see late payments, credit cards over the limit and you are using almost all of your credit then you know you have some room to increase your score. Start paying your bills on time, reduce your overall credit to debt ratio, and don't apply for more credit. Doing this will gradually improve your credit score and within a few months you will see a big difference. Once your score is up you should apply for your mortgage loan. This will increase your odds of being approved and more than likely get you a better interest rate as well.

Linoleum Flooring: The Truth about Today's Linoleum

If you're someone who loves to go barefoot around the house, think about adding linoleum to your kitchen floors. There are a number of reasons, but in a nutshell, linoleum is warmer on bare feet, easier on ankle and knee joints than tile, comes in a huge variety of patterns and colors, is cost-effective, water-tolerant, and is a natural product.

I know, your grandmother's house had linoleum, and it was dull, cold, lifeless, and hard to keep clean. But that's all a thing of the past. The new linoleum has a great deal to offer. Let's look at some of linoleum's advantages.

First, let's examine the composition of linoleum as opposed to vinyl flooring. Vinyl flooring is made of chlorinated petrochemical materials, while linoleum is made from linseed oil combined with wood flour or cork dust, ground limestone, and color pigments, over a burlap, jute, or canvas backing. In fact, the very name linoleum is derived from the Latin names for two natural materials: flax (linum) and oil (oleum).

Given their difference in composition, vinyl flooring will melt if someone accidentally drops a cigarette or a match on it, but linoleum won't. The pattern on vinyl flooring is imprinted onto the top surface of the material, but a linoleum pattern goes all the way through. That means that as a vinyl floor wears down, the pattern gradually disappears. However, the same amount of wear to linoleum only reveals new color, since the color goes all the way to the bottom.

Linoleum is also very durable and can last up to forty years, even in tough, high-traffic commercial situations. Ironically, it was that very durability that led to the decline of linoleum use in homes. People simply got tired of it long before it had outlived its usefulness.

Over time, vinyl flooring, which came in many more patterns and colors, made serious inroads into replacing linoleum as Americas favorite kitchen flooring material. But that didn't mean it was superior to linoleum. Since it had a cork backing, linoleum was quieter, provided insulation that made it warmer on bare feet, was more forgiving if someone dropped a dish or coffee cup, was easier on the legs and backs of women who spent lots of time in the kitchen, and was easy to keep clean.

If you're an environmentalist, linoleum wins over vinyl, hands down. It's made of completely renewable natural materials, and no toxins are released into the environment during its manufacture. That's one major reason why linoleum is making a strong comeback in new construction and remodeling projects.

It's not the same stuff your grandmother had on her kitchen floor. It's vibrant, dust-resistant, environmentally friendly, and will probably outlive the people who install it. What could be better than that?

Many diploma mills do not expect prospective students to conduct due diligence on them, so this can be to your advantage. The U.S. Department of Education maintains a website which lists recognized awarding bodies and the Distance Education Council will be happy to help you verify a particular college's accreditation.

Read the course catalogue closely to get a sense of what sort of programs they offer. In the rush to capitalize on the explosion in the online education market, many colleges will offer degrees in areas before than can develop a reputable or experience faculty. Does the instructor actually have professional and academic experience in the field that they teach? If you have any questions or queries, contact the university or the instructor and ask them. This should help you get a better sense of what the institution and its instructors are like.

One of the best indications that an online school is a diploma mill is if their admissions policies are too lenient or non-existent. While there are many good colleges with relaxed admissions procedures, diploma mills are often simply interested in taking money off of students in the form of tuition or fees. If the college is too keen to grant you credits based upon past courses or life-experience without careful consideration, than that is usually a sign that the school is best avoided.

While earning your degree online can be a rewarding experience, it is important that you know what to look for when choosing your school.

What's Your Excuse?

So what kind of a year are you having? We are heading into the last quarter of 2007 and if you are not on target for your goals you have two possible attitudes.

1)Write off this year and play a lot of golf and hope that 2008 will be better or even a banner year.
2)Hustle your fanny and do whatever it takes to salvage the rest of this year and end it with a respectable outcome.

Heres the problem. Many salespeople try to make up during the last half or last quarter of the year for poor performance or results early in the year. Its tough to do a years worth of business in only 3 or 6 months I know, Ive tried it.

So if this year isnt shaping up to be one of your best whats your excuse?

-You are new.
-Your territory lacks potential.
-Your competitors are eating your lunch.
-Uncle Willy passed away.
-Your prices are too high.
-You have product/service challenges that are eroding customer loyalty.
-There is more competition than in the past.
-Your next door neighbor just put in a new swimming pool.
-You are spending too much time in after sales service issues.
-The economy is unstable.
-Aunt Sarah retired.
-Everyone you contact is in stall mode.

I could go on. Maybe your excuse is listed and maybe it isnt. If it isnt better figure out what it is before it is too late.

Regardless of your excuse (reason) the bottom line is - if you want more sales, bigger margins, more repeat orders, fewer cancellations or faster sales cycle you better spend some time thinking about;

-what you are selling
-how you are selling it
-how you are not selling it
-who you are trying to sell it to
-why they are not buying
-what will it take to get them to buy
-what you are doing with your free time
-are you stuck in old selling attitudes, beliefs, behaviors

There are only three ways to sell more do more right, do less wrong or do both.

You cant do less wrong if you dont know what isnt working. You cant do more right if you are not spending time reading great sales books (like my latest - 91 Sales Mistakes Smart Salespeople make I mean its only $13.00 thats less than todays lunch) or listening to great CDs (like my 25 Sales Principles to Grow Your Business.)

So, start doing more right and doing less wrong and 2007 can be a great year for you.

Houston Flood Insurance Information

The Houston area has an especially high risk for flood damage. The city is in an area that is at risk for hurricanes that can bring storm surges and very high levels of rainfall. The elevation of the city is close to sea level. The ground is mainly composed of clay that doesnt absorb water well. There are rivers, streams, and drainage channels that pass through Houston on the way to the gulf. There are bayous for storm water that can overflow with heavy rain and flood nearby areas. Heavy construction in the city often can result in flood problems for surrounding areas. Changing weather patterns from global warming and other factors may result in more intense weather events in the future.

You can visit the fema.gov website to view maps of the Houston areas flood zones. You will find that a large percentage of the city area has an elevated risk of flooding. Areas that have less risk are designated on the flood map as being in B, C, D, or X zones. It is important to remember that residents in low risk zones can suffer flood damage. If fact about 30% of all flood damages claims are from areas considered as lower risk.

We you are considering buying or leasing a residence it is important to consider the risk of flood. Ask your realtor or an insurance agent to tell you the flood zone for the property you are considering. If possible select a location in the B, C, D, or X zone. When you buy a property in a higher risk flood area you should consider the higher cost of flood insurance in your decision.

Flood insurance in most areas is inexpensive. Here is a chart of the current cost for homes that qualify for a preferred rate:
